Felonies
Felonies are serious crimes with punishment ranging from the maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment in some states, to a minimum penalty of over one year in prison. According to Michigan law, capital punishment has been banned as a penalty for crimes tried in Michigan courts for over 150 years.
Examples of felonies include homicide, arson, rape, robbery, burglary, possession of narcotics, receiving stolen property, and grand theft, to name a few.
